Credit By Exam | Warren County Community College

Credit By Exam

Students may accelerate their graduation from college by taking exams including Advanced Placement exams, the College Level Examination Placement tests or the Warren County Community College Institutional Credit by Exam tests. A maximum of 30 semester hours of credit may be earned through any of these methods (subject to the limitation that no more than 45 semester hours of credit may be applied toward a WCCC degree by transfer credit which shall include credit by examination.) A maximum of 15 credits may be earned toward a certificate program (subject to the limitation that no more than 21 semester hours of credit may be applied toward a WCCC certificate by transfer credit which shall include Credit by Examination.)

Advanced Placement - Use the following list to see what credits you may have earned from Advanced Placement (AP) exams. You must have the scores sent directly to Warren County Community College from the Educational Testing Service to receive credit on your transcript.

Please note that the Warren County Community College Advanced Placement Test policy is pending. Please check back in January for a listing of Advanced Placement Tests, WCCC score requirements and courses awarded.

For more information on Advanced Placement testing, see the College Board website.

College Level Examination Placement (CLEP) – Credit awards for the CLEP exams are listed below. Remember, CLEP scores must be sent directly from the College Board for credit to be awarded. Once received, they will be evaluated and the credit will be posted on your official transcript.

For specific information about CLEP and credit awarding information, please click here. Advanced placement is awarded for the following CLEP examinations. Academic credit is not awarded for CLEP exams not shown. For more information on CLEP testing, see the College Board website.

WCCC also awards credit for DSST (formerly DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) and ECE (Excelsior College Examination) tests.  For more information on taking DSST or ECE exams for credit toward completion of your WCCC degree, contact Student Services at [email protected] or (908) 835-2300.

Institutional Credit by Exam – A student attempting credit-by-examination will be awarded a grade of “P”; except in the case of failure, no grade will be recorded. In either case, the student’s cumulative quality point average will not be affected; i.e., the credits earned or attempted by means of these examinations will not be included in calculating a student’s QPA. Unlike credits earned through CLEP, credits earned by exam may not be transferable. A fee of $40 may be assessed for each exam administered.  Students interested in Institutional Credit by Exam should contact the Office of Academic Affairs at (908) 835-2310.
