Veterinary Assistant Program

This 100-hour comprehensive course covers the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the care of animals and an understanding of the clerical/accounting duties essential to maintaining an efficient and competent front office. This Veterinary Assistant program provides students an opportunity to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in an entry-level position as a veterinary assistant. Certification is available through NWCA Veterinary Assistant Certification (VET).

Career Pathway Opportunities

WCCC in partnership with St. Petersburg College, Florida provides students with the opportunity to earn their AS Degree in Veterinary Technology (Veterinary Technician) online distance program. WCCC students completing the Veterinary Assistant Program with a “B” or better are eligible to earn “Free Credit” for two of the required courses in the degree program.

According to the Occupational Handbook, the demand for professional veterinary assistants has a 10% growth rate (as fast as average) from 2014 – 2024. Places of employment include veterinary facilities, animal hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, animal shelters, and animal laboratories.

Cost: $1,899 includes all textbooks and materials

Educational Requirements:  High School Diploma/HSE, 18 years of age or older, strong basic math skills, clear understanding of written and spoken English, and a love of animals.
