Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)

This introductory course explores the theory and history of fiber optics data transmission. It is designed for anyone wanting to become certified in the necessary installation, troubleshooting, and testing techniques of installed fiber optics networks as required per industry standards. This program includes 85% hands-on activities by allowing you to build and test your fiber optics network. Certification Exams are administered and graded at the end of the session. You must pass both the written and hands-on exams to pass this course successfully. This course is recognized by The US Department of Labor and is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of computers; ability to speak and understand the English language.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing & Maintenance (CFOS/T)

This comprehensive specialist program explains the variety of testing standards, equipment, and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and maintenance and how to choose among them. This course is 85% hands-on and includes a detailed study of fiber network testing and troubleshooting procedures, OTDR fundamentals and uses, OTDR vs. Insertion Loss Testing, Return Loss Testing, and Attenuation testing using the Power Source and Light Meter. Certification Exams are administered and graded at the end of the session. You must pass both the written and hands-on exams to pass this course successfully. This course is recognized by The US Department of Labor and is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). Prerequisites: CFOT course.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist Outside Plant (CFOS/O) 

This comprehensive 2-day* program trains students for outside plant fiber optic installation. Aimed at technicians working in outside plant cabling for telecom, CATV, security, utilities, municipal networks, etc. This course introduces the student to industry standards governing the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of OSP fiber optics cable. Proper Mid-Span Access procedures will be demonstrated during class. Students will learn how to identify OSP fiber cabling types properly, recognize various outside plant closures used in OSP fiber installation, install, prepare, terminate, splice, and properly test and troubleshoot installed OSP fiber cable to existing standards.
Prerequisite: CFOT course.

Fiber Optics Splicing Specialist (CFOS/S)

This 2-day Splicing Specialist Training includes a complete PowerPoint presentation explaining the importance of high-performance splicing and further details the points necessary to achieve these splices. The depth of this presentation is much greater than most textbooks and provides background information about splicing that is very important to the student. 85% hands-on classroom activities will provide training in both fusion and mechanical splicing of either single or multimode fiber optic cables. The student will be responsible for successfully making and testing both mechanical and fusion splices, efficiently installing spliced fibers into splice trays and enclosures, and achieving a splice
loss of less than 0.15 dB to demonstrate proficiency.

Prerequisites: CFOT course.
