Legal Assistant (Paralegal Studies) - Certificate
Certificate Program
The Legal Studies Certificate Program is designed to allow students to gain knowledge of legal terminology and the American Court structures. Exercises are given to allow students to read ethical codes, case fact patterns, brief case opinions and draft memoranda, letters, pleadings and briefs. A background that includes office and business skills is helpful. An interest in the legal field and the career of Paralegalism is required. Paralegals may not give legal advice and must work under the supervision of an attorney. The Certificate Program has been revised to reflect the American Bar Association requirement of eighteen (18) credits of legal specialty courses. This allows students to explore different substantive areas of law while learning research techniques.
