Fiber Optic Training and Certification
8/11/2010

This comprehensive, 3-module, Fiber Optics Association (FOA) sanctioned fiber optics training program is designed to provide you with CFOT, CFOS/T and CFOS/S credentials. For those who already possess a CFOT credential, continue your education with specialist training to obtain your CFOS/T and CFOS/S.

Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) FOT600A2

This 3-day (24-hour), introductory course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optic Technician. This course combines theory and 75% hands-on activities to prepare you to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) test. The CFOT exam, sanctioned by the FOA (Fiber Optics Association), is given and graded on the final class day. This course also introduces the student to industry standards governing FTTD (Fiber To The Desk), FTTH (Fiber To The Home), K-12 (Schools), and explains Zone Vs. Distribution Cabling. Students will learn how to identify fiber types, recognize various connectors used in fiber installation; and install, terminate, splice, and properly test installed fiber cable to existing standards. This program explores the history and future of fiber optics and fiber optics capabilities, and cost of installation.
This program is recognized for BICSI CECs (Continuing Education Credits):
RDDD 21, OSP 21, INST2 21, TECH 21

Prerequisite: Basic working knowledge of computers. Ability to see and identify small items. Ability to speak and understand the English language.

November 1-3, 2010
Monday - Wednesday
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Cost: $699.00 (Course fee includes study materials, textbook, and CD)

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing & Maintenance (CFOS/T) FOT601A2

This 2-day (16-hour), advanced program is designed to offer specialist fiber optics training to anyone involved in the testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks. This program combines theory with 75% hands-on activities to teach you specific procedures to use when testing both multimode and singlemode fiber optic networks. Proper maintenance of both inside and outside plant fiber optic networks is also discussed in detail.
A focal point of this program is our general, easy to understand approach to fiber optics testing standards. We explain the variety of testing standards; equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and how to choose among them. Explore the overall spectrum of testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks to achieve a better comfort level and confidence in your ability to test and maintain both single and multi mode fiber optic networks. Subject matter includes a detailed study of ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-14A, OTDR Fundamentals and Uses, OTDR Vs. Insertion Loss Testing, Return Loss Testing, and Proper Maintenance of High-Performance Fiber Networks.
This program is recognized for BICSI CECs (Continuing Education Credits):
RCDD 14, OSP 14, INST2 14, TECH 14.

The Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Testing Exam is given and graded on the final day of class.

Prerequisite: CFOT course or another Formal Fiber Optics Training course within previous 6 months, or 1 Year Fiber Optics related experience. If not CFOT registered with FOA, you must pass the Basic CFOT Exam prior to registering. The 100-question exam is available, for a fee, to “test out” of the basic, CFOT course requirement. All students are highly encouraged to attend the CFOT course immediately preceeding this course in the training schedule as the CFOT course will prepare you for this specialist class.

November 4-5, 2010
Thursday - Friday
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Cost: $675.00 (Course fee includes all study materials & PC-Based OTDR Simulator)

Certified Fiber Optics Splicing Specialist (CFOS/S) FOT602A2

This 2-day (16-hour) advanced program is designed to teach you the importance of high performance splicing and details the points necessary to achieve these splices. This program combines theory with 75% hands-on classroom activities in both fusion and mechanical splicing of both single and multi mode fiber optic cables. Both inside and outside plant fiber optic cable types will be utilized during these hands-on sessions along with inside and outside plant enclosures and splice trays. You are responsible for successfully making and testing both single mode and multi mode mechanical and fusion splices. In addition to the basic splicing activities outlined above, you are also required to correctly and efficiently install spliced fibers into splice trays and trays in enclosures. These enclosures will include both rack and wall mounted splice enclosures, as well as outside plant enclosures. Additionally, you are required to achieve a splice loss of less than 0.15 dB for all splices and demonstrate proficiency in interpretation of splice loss using OTDR splice traces.
This program is recognized for BICSI CECs (Continuing Education Credits):
RCDD 14, OSP 14, INST2 14, TECH 14.

The Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Splicing Exam is given and graded on the final day of class.

All students are highly encouraged to attend the CFOT course as it will prepare you for this specialist class.
