Placement Testing | Warren County Community College

Placement Testing

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and the in-person restrictions put in place on our campus, Tutoring Support and Testing Services have been changed to virtual on-line face-to-face sessions. Some types of testing have been postponed until further notice. We appreciate your support as we work to keep our students, staff, and faculty safe.

WCCC no longer requires ACCUPLACER Testing for college credit math or English course enrollment, however some Continuing Education Programs offered at the Phillipsburg Education Center may require testing to assess a student’s skill level.

To Enroll in College Credit Courses:

Multiple measures will be used to determine course placement. Contact an Academic Advisor in the Office of Student Services to discuss your course options by calling (908) 835-2300.

Continuing Education Programs:

Your program may require you to take either the basic math or English placement test. Please contact your program’s coordinator at WCCC’s Phillipsburg Education Center at (908) 689-7613 to determine the need for testing. If you have earned college credits for math or English, you will be exempt from testing.

ACCUPLACER is a computerized placement test administered in the Instructional Support Center (ISC) by appointment in room 106 across from the WCCC Library.   For more information, please see the links below:

Computer Delivered TestingTesting Pic

ACCUPLACER Testing is an untimed assessment administered via computer. A proctor will always be present should you have any questions or problems.

Adaptive Testing

The testing format presents one question at a time. Each page presents the question and several possible answer choices. The page may also include additional information that is needed to answer the question, such as a reading passage, picture or table information. This means that the computer automatically determines which questions are presented to you based on your responses to prior questions. This technique selects just the right questions to ask without being too easy or too difficult. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question when it is first given.

Testing Strategies

You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question. However, once you proceed to the next question, you cannot return to the previous one. You should take as much time as you need to answer each question. The test is not timed. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices, and then select from the remaining choices.
