Medical Lab Assistant


This 48-hour introductory course will allow the student to pursue employment in a clinical laboratory setting.

Course content includes:

  • Overview of the Clinical Laboratory
  • Safety Standards and Procedures
  • Professional Communication and Interactions
  • Quality Control and Assurance
  • Care and Use of the Microscope
  • Management and Specimen Collection
  • Patient Testing and Processing
  • Medical terminology
  • Chemistry, Hematology and Microbiology as it pertains to the clinical Laboratory

This class is ideal for students contemplating the field of Clinical Laboratory as a MLT or MT, Phlebotomists or interested students pursuing employment in a laboratory setting.

Pre-Req: 18 years of age or older, HS diploma/GED, Certified Phlebotomist or completion or proof of registration in ALH638 Venipuncture Skills for Healthcare Professionals. Certification through American Medical Technologists (AMT) to achieve CMLA status may be obtained through eligibility Route #2 – Work experience upon completing 1,040 hours of work in a clinical laboratory setting.
