Professor Hillyer created the Communications Option and Certificate at WCCC. She is the advisor to the student newspaper, The Campus Racket, as well as Sigma Chi Eta, the Communications Honor Society & Club. She is the College’s Service Learning Coordinator. She received her tenure in 2008.
Hillyer is one of four members of the National Faculty Advisory Board for Sigma Chi Eta, the Communications Honor Society which is sponsored by the National Communication Association (NCA), an advocate of Communication Education. She received the Disbrow National Faculty Advisor of the Year honor in 2007 at the 92nd Annual NCA convention in Chicago.
In addition to teaching at WCCC since 1996, she has taught at Centenary College, Raritan Valley Community College and Thomas Edison State College. As a community volunteer, Professor Hillyer works with Warren County Habitat for Humanity in many capacities and is its former President (2005-2008; 2010-2012).
