Grooming Assistant

This 48-hour Grooming Assistant program prepares the student to enter the steadily growing field of Pet Grooming.  Grooming assistants are a welcome position in grooming shops, veterinary offices, kennels and pet shops.  The student will learn the skills that are essential to grooming based on the standards set by the American Kennel Club, with the exception of finish work such as scissoring and clipping.

  • Drying/High-Speed Drying Techniques
  • De-Matting
  • Ear Cleaning
  • Teeth Brushing
  • Nail Clipping/Grinding
  • Paw Pad Care
  • Groomer/Pet Safety
  • Pet Anatomy
  • Grooming Products/Shampoos and their uses
  • Grooming Tools/Proper Use & Maintenance
  • Dog Breed & Coat Types
  • Skin Care and Common Skin Problems
  • Pet CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Business Basics
  • Online certificate for Basic Nutrition 101 and Weight Management Certification through Purina Pro

Pre-req – 18 years and older, HS diploma/GED (students completing their senior year of HS are welcome), genuine love of animals, and proof of health insurance. Students are to purchase the “basic tool kit”. See attached.

To complete at-home assignments potential students should own a dog or have access to a dog through friends or family.
